Performance Evaluation of a Seamless Communication on 3GPP-bas

This paper describes the modeling and performance evaluation of a seamless communication architecture, called EAPEC (Environment-Adaptive Personal Communications), for next generation wide-area mobile computing networks. The EAPEC lays its foundation on the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project)-based all-IP network architecture and is implemented by adding functional components to the 3GPP-based all-IP network. To evaluate performance of the EAPEC architecture, it is modeled by integrating a queuing network model for application layer processing delay with a statistical model for IPnetwork delay. Call-setup time, a performance measure important for EAPEC realtime applications, is obtained by mathematical analysis and simulation of the integrated model.
